Description

The Utilities Department manages multiple treatment facilities, including two water treatment plants, a wastewater treatment facility, and a reclamation plant. This role is pivotal in ensuring continuous maintenance and repair of water and wastewater systems, facilities, and structures. The incumbent will oversee both supervisory and hands-on tasks related to maintenance operations that require a diverse skill set, including mechanical, electrical, and control systems expertise. Emergency response may be necessary at times. Under general supervision, the individual will plan, organize, and lead a thorough maintenance, repair, and installation strategy for treatment plants and associated facilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develops, organizes, and implements a safe and effective maintenance and repair program for Utilities Treatment Plants and related facilities, including mechanical and electrical systems, emergency generators, and other equipment.
  • Conducts routine inspections of plant equipment and provides recommendations for maintenance or replacement as necessary.
  • Coordinates projects involving equipment fabrication, installation, repair, and replacement.
  • Requests and evaluates vendor quotes; manages purchase orders and approves invoices.
  • Establishes maintenance schedules, safety inspections, and checklists.
  • Maintains control over inventory for equipment and spare parts.
  • Documents and maintains accurate records of preventative maintenance activities and equipment repair costs; prepares periodic and special reports.
  • Assists in the implementation and upkeep of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Oversees and reviews the work of assigned employees or contractors, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluations, promotions, disciplinary actions, and employee scheduling.
  • Exhibits independent judgment in assessing situations and making decisions.
  • Performs additional related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Five (5) years of extensive experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment components, or a related field, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE:
REQUIRED:
  • Possession of a Class "C" Water or Wastewater treatment license from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection or the ability to obtain within two (2) years of appointment;
  • Possession of a valid Class "B" CDL Florida driver's license or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of appointment.
PREFERRED:
  • Certification in Utility Mechanical Training;
  • Broward County Certified Master Electrician License.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be available to work extended hours during hurricanes or other emergencies.
  • As the Utilities operate 24/7, the incumbent will be required to respond to after-hours and emergency call-outs as necessary.
