We are seeking a highly skilled Water Treatment Plant Operator to join our team at the City of Tamarac, FL. As a key member of our Public Services department, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our water treatment plant.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and operate water treatment plant machinery and equipment to maintain efficient operations and provide safe drinking water to the public.
- Perform routine technical activities, including maintenance, adjustments, and repairs to equipment as required.
- Collect and analyze water samples to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Respond to and assess non-routine and potential emergency situations, notifying and/or involving all appropriate personnel when necessary.
- Ensure the water treatment plant buildings and grounds are secured throughout each assigned shift.
- Assist mechanics with equipment repairs as necessary and/or assigned.
- Perform routine tasks, including painting and cleaning rooms and equipment, receiving deliveries, collecting field samples, and inventorying supplies.
- High School diploma or GED required; supplemented by one (1) year of experience in municipal water treatment plant operations; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a city-owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required (and sponsored) according to job duties and responsibilities.
- Must possess a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Class "C" Drinking Water Treatment Plant Operator License.
- Three (3) years of experience in municipal water treatment plant operations.
- Valid Class "B" Drinking Water Treatment Plant Operator License.
This is a non-exempt position pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is within the blue-collar bargaining unit covered by the City of Tamarac and Federation of Public Employees (FPE) collective bargaining agreement. This position is paid on an hourly basis, issued bi-weekly, and subject to overtime pay in accordance with the terms of the current City of Tamarac and FPE collective bargaining agreement.
