UPMC is seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Surgical Technologist to join our Operating Room team. As a key member of our surgical team, you will be responsible for facilitating the safe and effective execution of surgical procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient care and satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate day-to-day supervision of surgical technicians, ensuring seamless execution of surgical procedures.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to improve OR operations and patient care.
  • Teach and mentor new employees and students, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure the availability and proper use of equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in peer review and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the operating room, including setup, cleaning, and restocking.
  • Pass instruments, hold retractors, and assist in counting sponges, needles, and instruments during surgery.
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites.
  • Support cost containment initiatives and promote efficient use of materials and equipment.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4 years of Operating Room experience.
  • Completion of a formal surgical technician program.
  • Advanced knowledge of at least 3 surgical specialties.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TSC) certification.
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting, Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI Clearance.
