Organizational Mission: Community Servings is dedicated to engaging the community in providing medically tailored, nutritious meals to individuals and families facing chronic and critical illnesses. We prioritize racial and economic justice and health equity in all our initiatives.
About the Role: In light of our significant growth in leadership contributions following a successful capital campaign, we are seeking a Chief Officer of Major Gifts and Planned Contributions. This newly established role will lead the transformation of our leadership giving program and initiate a planned giving strategy. The individual will be responsible for crafting and implementing an annual strategy to nurture, solicit, and manage relationships with major donors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Expand upon the achievements of our existing program by recruiting, training, and overseeing a team of up to five new staff members.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and manage a portfolio of major donors to meet annual fundraising targets exceeding $2M.
- Ensure that each Major Gifts Officer on the team conducts a minimum of 200 donor visits annually.
- Develop strategies to attract new donors and establish a fresh portfolio of major contributors, collaborating with senior leadership to strategize large gifts of $50,000 or more.
- Work in partnership with staff and Board members to set and achieve fundraising goals, organize major donor events, and produce related materials.
- Facilitate weekly strategy meetings with senior staff to assess progress and refine approaches for major donor engagement.
- Engage directly with donors to solicit contributions and foster community support for Community Servings' programs.
- Oversee major donor events and activities at key organizational events, including planning and follow-up.
- Identify and implement strategies to involve major donors in fundraising, marketing, and volunteer opportunities.
- Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure timely acknowledgment of all major donor contributions.
- Represent Community Servings to internal and external stakeholders to cultivate and maintain vital relationships.
- Manage the Moves Management System for donor cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation.
- Develop and manage the Major Gifts Budget, providing regular updates to the Chief Development Officer and CEO.
- Establish and promote our planned giving initiative, The Bernie Smith Society, while cultivating and soliciting its members.
- Work with the Director of Communications to create impactful messaging, develop collateral materials, and implement a meaningful donor recognition program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- A minimum of ten years of experience in a dynamic nonprofit development role, with at least five years focused on securing five and six-figure contributions.
- Experience in a major gifts environment that incorporates special events is advantageous.
- Exemplary attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
- Strong time management skills, with the capacity to meet deadlines and adapt priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- Strategic thinker with a focus on both immediate and long-term objectives.
- Comfortable with public speaking engagements.
- Availability for evening and weekend donor meetings and events as necessary.
- Proficiency in Salesforce and Microsoft Office is essential.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Oversight of a future team comprising four Major Gift and Planned Giving Officers and two Development Associates.
