Crossing Guard

We are seeking a highly responsible and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Crossing Guard in the Town of Ashland. As a Crossing Guard, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety of school children and the orderly movement of traffic.

• Protect Ashland school children while crossing streets, roadways, and public ways
• Provide assistance to full-time sworn police officers and perform various duties as assigned
• Report directly to assigned crossing stations and remain on duty until the conclusion of the assignment
• Ensure children use proper crossing locations and do not enter the street while traffic is moving
• Be alert for present or potential hazards and submit a written report to the Chief of Police
• Communicate effectively with the Officer in Charge and other stakeholders

• Completed First Aid Medical Responder and CPR Training
• Ability to communicate with a wide range of people and maintain confidentiality
• Working knowledge of Massachusetts criminal and traffic laws, as well as Town of Ashland Ordinances and by-laws
• Physical ability to sit, talk, and hear, as well as occasional walking, lifting, and standing

This role involves working predominantly in the field, with occasional office work. You will be required to work under stressful conditions, manage time effectively, and communicate effectively over law enforcement radios channels.
