FINANCIAL OPERATIONS MANAGER

We are currently looking for a Financial Operations Manager to become part of our Business Office. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will provide financial guidance to a small accounting team, ensuring that financial operations adhere to established policies and are executed efficiently, accurately, and with a focus on customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Investment, Fixed Assets, General Ledger, and project/program accounting.
  • Maintain and reconcile sub-ledger systems.
  • Review and authorize all invoices through the payment processing system.
  • Collaborate with the CFO and billing specialist on overdue accounts and collection efforts.
  • Assist the CFO in managing the business office staff, including setting goals and performance management.
  • Evaluate current accounting practices, recommend enhancements, and implement new processes and internal controls.
  • Support the CFO with the annual budgeting process and the upload of the approved budget to the financial system.
  • Work alongside the COO and CFO on tracking Capital Budgets.
  • Assist various committees with reporting and preparation for meetings.
  • Generate monthly and special financial reports, as well as government filings.
  • Prepare monthly reports for the board.
  • Distribute monthly budget versus actual reports to budget managers.
  • Compile monthly fundraising and capital campaign tracking reports.
  • In partnership with Development, reconcile fundraising activities with financial records.
  • Manage the monthly closing process.
  • Oversee annual financial audits and related reporting.

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of relevant experience, ideally in an independent school or non-profit setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA designation preferred.
  • Strong understanding of business law and regulatory standards (GAAP).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • High integrity and ethical standards.
  • Ability to effectively delegate tasks and foster teamwork.
  • Goal-oriented with a strong desire to innovate.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with knowledge of advanced functions.
  • Familiarity with accounting systems and non-profit fund accounting is a plus.
