Fiber Splicer Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Fiber Splicer to join our team at Kanaan Communications, LLC. As a Fiber Splicer, you will be responsible for terminating, splicing, and preparing fiber optic cable within a telecommunications system to ensure that the scope of work is performed within the required standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Splice overhead, underground, or submarine multiple conductor cables.
  • Climb utility poles, utilize truck-mounted lift-buckets, or descend into underground vaults.
  • Cut sheath from installed cable to gain access to defective cable, as well as cut and peel sheath and insulation from newly installed cable and conductors.
  • Test (traces or phase out) each conductor to identify corresponding conductors in adjoining cables, using test lamps or bell systems.
  • Read and interpret (i.e., mechanical, electrical, digital) drawings, maps, blueprints, diagrams, etc.
  • Ensure that all splicing operations are completed in accordance with customer and industry specifications.
  • Perform other splicing-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • To be 18 years of age or older.
  • Authorization to work in the United States for this company.
  • One or more years of experience as a fiber splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations while working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation.
  • A valid standard Driver's License or Class A Commercial Driver's License.
  • To be able to pass a DOT physical exam, resulting in a valid medical card.
  • One or more years of experience splicing copper and coax.

Physical Abilities & Exposures:

  • Duties outlined in this position will require the employee to stand, crouch, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low.
  • The employee will be standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding, or stooping while on shift.
  • Ability to climb telephone poles and work in a bucket truck and work aloft and climb poles up to 40 feet.
  • Ability to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, and hardhats.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, which can include but are not limited to: extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as wind, rain, snow, sleet, and dust, as well as adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog.
  • Employees in this job classification may be exposed to dust, fumes, or other airborne pathogens.
  • Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 LBS as needed with or without assistance.

Salary Range: $38-42 per hour
