Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to support our genetic counseling team at Geisinger Health System. Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the dissemination of genetic screening/testing results and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Collect relevant clinical information and prepare documentation for genetic counseling use, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Assist with patient scheduling and referrals for genetic counseling, ensuring timely and efficient communication with patients and healthcare providers.
  • Conduct data entry and updates computer files used for project monitoring and data collection, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Assist with data collection activities, including participant recruitment and follow-up, ensuring compliance with research protocols and regulations.
  • Conduct literature searches and fact-finding research to support project development, staying current with industry trends and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the genetic counseling team and contribute to the success of Geisinger Health System.
Specific Position Duties
  • Lead informed consent process for studies in genomic medicine and precision health, ensuring patients understand the risks and benefits of participating in research.
  • Support a genetic counseling clinic by managing referrals and test results, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Develop patient-friendly education materials at the appropriate reading level, ensuring clear and concise communication of complex information.
Competencies and Skills
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software applications.
  • Knowledge of basic research methodology and research data collection, including understanding of IRB regulations and compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and effective communication.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with a GPA of 3.3 or better, preferably in a field related to genetic counseling or a related field.
  • Strong interest in pursuing graduate-level academic training in Genetic Counseling or a related field, demonstrating a commitment to professional development.
  • Undergraduate coursework in Biology, Psychology, and Statistics, providing a solid foundation in scientific principles and research methods.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
  • Work is typically performed in an office or clinical environment, with occasional travel within the organization required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
