About the Department
The Global Health Program (GH) leverages advancements in science and technology to save lives in low- and middle-income nations. We prioritize health challenges that receive insufficient attention and funding. When effective solutions are available, we focus on enhancing their delivery. In areas lacking proven interventions, we invest in research and development for new solutions, including vaccines, medications, and diagnostic tools. Our initiatives target strategies to combat and prevent diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, neglected tropical diseases, and pneumonia. These strategic teams are supported by specialized groups focusing on Discovery and Translational Sciences, Vaccine Development, and Integrated Development.
Your Responsibilities
You will create and implement advanced communication strategies that encompass media relations, message development, editorial planning, and content creation, along with consistent writing for both internal and external audiences. You will provide communication guidance to program colleagues, grantees, and partners, collaborating to enhance awareness and support for the foundation's initiatives and investments. Your experience includes managing a portfolio of grants and contracts that align with programmatic, policy, advocacy, and communication objectives.
Key Duties Include:
- Collaborating with leadership and program teams to define communication objectives and strategies that support program goals through traditional and digital media channels.
- Coordinating communication priorities and activities, maintaining a communications calendar, and providing updates on progress.
- Updating program teams on media coverage related to the foundation and its grantees, and facilitating media relations with key journalists.
- Engaging with colleagues across the foundation, particularly in strategy, policy, finance, and government relations, to enhance communication efforts aligned with program priorities.
- Partnering with the communications earned media lead to address media inquiries and develop proactive engagement opportunities.
- Collaborating with development partners to create a unified narrative around foundation program issues and working with the digital team to build cohesive content and calendars.
- Providing in-country communication support to elevate priority issues and manage potential reputational risks.
- Building a coalition of third-party voices and partners to amplify priority issues and align narratives.
- Developing essential communication materials and collateral, including newsletters, key messages, website content, brochures, and briefing materials.
- Leading vendor collaborations for grantee communication projects and ensuring successful delivery of objectives.
- Crafting messaging to support director speaking engagements and media opportunities.
- Coordinating communication grants and contracts to advance program priorities and inform investments.
- Promoting an inclusive culture through exemplary behavior and timely escalation of issues to appropriate partners.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Extensive knowledge in strategic communication development, planning, and execution.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders, ensuring timely completion with meticulous attention to detail.
- Experience in nonprofit, advocacy, or political communications.
