POSITION SUMMARY AND REQUIREMENTS:

An exciting opportunity exists for a full-time Assistant Professor role within the laboratory of Dr. Kirsteen Browning in the Neural and Behavioral Sciences Department at Penn State College of Medicine. The focus of research in this laboratory pertains to the brainstem's regulation of autonomic functions, with a particular emphasis on gastrointestinal processes.

The primary responsibilities for this position include designing and executing experiments, analyzing data, and contributing to the preparation of manuscripts for publication. The successful candidate will maintain accurate records of their activities and data in accordance with laboratory and institutional policies.

Applicants should be eager to learn new methodologies and demonstrate qualities such as responsibility, self-motivation, effective communication, and strong organizational skills. Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel and Office) is essential. Candidates are expected to actively participate in the development and design of research initiatives under faculty guidance.

Qualified candidates must possess a PhD in relevant fields such as physiology or neuroscience, along with proven experience in electrophysiological recordings in ex vivo slice preparations, stereotaxic surgery, microinjection techniques in rodents, and optogenetic or chemogenetic manipulation of neurocircuits.

This position is a limited-term, non-tenure track role funded for one year from the date of hire, with the potential for renewal.
