Position Summary:

The Mechanical Apprentice, referred to as a Qualified Person at Drummac, is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of passenger rail cars and locomotives under the guidance of a Passenger Rail Mechanic. This role requires strict adherence to corporate policies, health and safety protocols, and compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct air brake inspections on passenger and private rail cars, demonstrating knowledge of air brake systems.
  • Perform daily inspections on locomotives, troubleshoot issues, and manage the repair or replacement of components.
  • Troubleshoot various systems on passenger cars, including toilet systems, air conditioning, doors, panels, lighting, electrical systems, and braking systems, executing necessary repairs.
  • Complete regulatory, client, and company-required documentation accurately.
  • Conduct electrical tests, disassemble, replace, repair, modify, rebuild, assemble, adjust, and maintain batteries and all electrical components on locomotives.
  • Effectively communicate inspection findings to the Supervisor, both in writing and verbally.
  • Be available for overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties as needed.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to adapt to changing train schedules.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions as required.
  • Utilize and wear necessary protective equipment while performing job duties.
  • Take personal responsibility for safety while on the job.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Preferred: Completion of trade school or formal training in railroad locomotive or diesel mechanical maintenance.
  • Preferred: Experience in locomotive mechanical, electrical, or industrial heavy equipment maintenance.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment screening process, including background checks and drug testing.

Compensation: The hourly wage for Passenger Rail Mechanic Apprentice candidates in Sacramento, California is approximately $22.00. Actual pay will be determined based on various factors, including relevant skills and experience. Full-time employees are also eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including:
