Job Overview

The Texas Municipal Courts Education Center (TMCEC) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Program Attorney to join our team. As a judicial branch educator, you will play a critical role in conveying legal information and creating dynamic education programs for judges and court personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and implement in-person and online educational programs for judges, prosecutors, and court support personnel.
  • Make presentations, serve as a panelist, and moderate at TMCEC programs.
  • Analyze data to evaluate, plan, and improve programming and content.
  • Conduct needs assessments to ensure curriculum designs serve specific target populations.
  • Facilitate curriculum development and implementation.
  • Identify and propose potential topics for presentations.
  • Develop and organize agendas and instructional content.
  • Recruit, prepare, develop, and manage faculty.
  • Assist faculty with development of course materials, presentations, and instruction.
  • Draft correspondence and other materials for assigned programs.
  • Attend and monitor seminars.
  • Answer legal questions from judges, prosecutors, and court support personnel.
  • Monitor legislative actions, court decisions, and other periodicals to evaluate educational needs.
  • Research and write on legal topics.
  • Draft and update publications for use by judges and court personnel.
  • Edit TMCEC print and online materials.
  • Write and produce instructional media.
  • Represent TMCEC at conferences and other events.

Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proven work ethic and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to use a computer in a networked system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and information technology.
  • In-state travel required.
  • Licensed Attorney in the State of Texas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in teaching, instructional technology, adult education, technical writing, event planning, and project management.
  • Fundamental understanding of procedural and substantive criminal law and the operations of Texas criminal courts.
  • Experience as a staff attorney, criminal law practitioner, government lawyer, and/or a work history reflecting a commitment to public service.

The Texas Municipal Courts Education Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation exclusively for charitable, literary, and educational purposes. We provide judicial education, technical assistance, and resource materials to assist municipal judges, court support personnel, and city attorneys in obtaining and maintaining professional competence in the fair and impartial administration of criminal justice. We offer mandatory and continuing education for municipal judges and municipal court personnel, including prosecutors, and conduct training in various locations throughout the state and online.
