Position Overview
This recruitment is for two (2) openings in the Department of Public Works. The City of Santa Clara is seeking a motivated and innovative engineer dedicated to delivering high-quality public works services to the community. The Department encompasses various focus areas, including Engineering Services and Operations and Maintenance.
Engineering Services includes five divisions: Administration, Traffic, Design, Land and Property Development, and Field Services.
Operations and Maintenance involves the upkeep of public roadways, parkways, boulevards, City trees, street sweeping, environmental programs, storm drain systems, fleet management, solid and mixed waste/recyclables, and City facilities.
Traffic Engineering Division offers technical support for the design and construction of both City and private development projects, conducts traffic impact analyses, and oversees bicycle and pedestrian improvement planning. This division addresses resident inquiries related to street parking, traffic calming measures, and multi-modal planning initiatives.
Under supervision, the Associate Engineer (Civil) will engage in both field and office tasks, including reviewing and approving designs for traffic control and public improvements, administering grants, and providing technical assistance in implementing transportation plans.
Water & Sewer Utilities Department
The mission of the Santa Clara Water & Sewer Utilities is to ensure a reliable supply of safe drinking water and environmentally responsible wastewater management. The department seeks an engineer with strong project management skills and experience in preparing and administering contracts.
Under supervision, the Associate Engineer (Civil) will perform advanced engineering tasks related to the design and construction of water and sewer projects, prepare construction documents, and ensure compliance with regulations.
Typical Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Conducting studies and analyses of engineering projects
• Preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for public works projects
• Compiling engineering data and performing calculations
• Drafting maps, drawings, and related documents
• Writing reports and participating in project reviews
• Coordinating engineering activities with other departments and agencies
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution
• Two (2) years of relevant civil engineering experience
Licenses & Certifications
• Valid California Class C driver's license
• State of California Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) Certificate or Civil Engineer registration
