Job Description

Role Overview:

As a Mental Health Counselor/Counseling Intern at Asun Star Consulting, INC, you will report and review clinical documentation and caseload with the Director of Substance Abuse and Counseling Services. You will work under the supervision of a licensed professional counselor (LPC) or licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), depending on your licensure.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments of clients' mental health conditions to identify their needs and develop treatment plans.
  • Assist clients in setting goals and implementing strategies to achieve those goals.
  • Design and implement treatment plans in conjunction with clients to facilitate the treatment process.
  • Provide care to clients based on principles of growth and development.
  • Report observations and reactions regarding clients to the appropriate staff.
  • Respect clients' rights, property, and privacy.
  • Be accountable for client care rendered and overall management of each case assigned.
  • Participate in treatment team conferences and related meetings, including staff meetings.
  • Participate in random drug testing as required by the agency.
  • Establish and maintain communication with clients, family members, referral sources, legal representatives, and authorized employers when consent is given.
  • Assure confidentiality of all matters involving clients, visitors, alumni, and other staff.
  • Document all relevant information regarding clients in their confidential clinical records.
  • Guide participants and lead discussion groups when scheduled.
  • Maintain caseloads and up-to-date participant information.
  • Participate in financial counseling with clients, including fines, child support, alimony, etc.
  • Accept speaking engagements when feasible.
  • Conduct daily case conferences with the Director of Substance Abuse and Counseling Services.
  • Provide crisis intervention using de-escalation techniques.
  • Provide and schedule recreational activities, community integration, and specified courses within the context of each participant's goals and behavioral objectives.
  • Provide communications with Probation, Parole, etc.
  • Refer clients to DVR, HIV clinics, medical, and social service agencies when required.
  • Develop discharge plans.
  • Provide monthly statistical reports.
  • Provide discharge summaries of caseloads and maintain clinical records with uniformity.
  • Complete knowledge of written assignments and proper presentation to participants.

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in a recognized mental health discipline.
  • Licensed and credentialed as a mental health counselor.
  • At least two years of experience providing services in a mental health modality, social services field, addiction treatment center, or healthcare facility.
  • Must have experience with individual and group counseling processes.
  • Must be proficient with computer skills and have knowledge of local and county social service agencies.
  • Must have good to excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Serve as an appropriate role model and function as part of a team.
