The Physician Assistant Role at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

The Physician Assistant (PA) role at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute involves collaborating with Attending Physicians in managing hematologic and solid tumor oncology patients. PAs have expert knowledge of medical and/or surgical oncology, incorporating general internal medicine and medical complications unique to oncology patients.

Working closely with the physician and multidisciplinary team, PAs develop and coordinate patient care plans, addressing physical, psychological, and social needs. Professional collaboration between inpatient and ambulatory settings is expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum job qualifications include a Master's Degree from an AAPA/NCCPA accredited Physician Assistant Studies program, NCCPA certification, and licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant in Massachusetts. PAs must also maintain current DEA and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Licenses and complete 100 hours of CME every two years.

Physician Assistant Career Advancement

Throughout the career, Physician Assistants will work collaboratively with the care team, respond to difficult situations, and attend disease center staff meetings and conferences. They will also be involved in various activities such as sub-specialty PA clinical expertise, leadership in program enhancement, assisting DFCI leadership in achieving PA program and disease center goals, and involvement in institute initiatives, QI projects, and committee work.
