About the Role

The Ambulatory Physician Assistant (PA) plays a vital role in assisting physicians in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Brigham & Women's Hospital (BWH).



Key Responsibilities

  1. Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to patients in the Pulmonary ambulatory practice.
  2. Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests, developing plans of care and following up based on findings.
  3. Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational policies and procedures.
  4. Serves as a resource to the healthcare team for patient care issues.
  5. Provides high-quality and timely documentation for both new and established patients.
  6. Practices cost-effective medicine and maximizes available resources.


Additional Responsibilities

  1. Assists with patient communication triage and communicates acute clinical issues to attending physicians.
  2. Ensures continuity of care and transition of care via multiple platforms.
  3. Collaborates with Patient Program Manager to follow patient progress and track patient journey.
  4. Participates in departmental and organizational quality improvement initiatives.
  5. Participates in departmental and organizational committees and programs.
  6. Maintains superior interpersonal and communication skills through ongoing education.


Qualifications

  • Completed a graduate-level physician assistant program accredited by the ARC-PA or equivalent.
  • Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) prior to employment.
  • Valid license or eligibility for licensure as a physician assistant in Massachusetts.
  • Current DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration.
