Job Title: Residential Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Residential Specialist to join our team at Intercept Health. As a Residential Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing support and guidance to our residents, helping them to develop socially effective values, attitudes, and behaviors.

Job Summary:

The Residential Specialist is responsible for facilitating resident medical and other outside appointments, administering medications, and maintaining accurate medication records. You will also be responsible for guiding residents in personal hygiene techniques, meal preparation, and housekeeping procedures. Additionally, you will use good interpersonal communication skills to gain resident cooperation and resolve conflicts.

Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate resident medical and other outside appointments, including setting appointments, communicating appointments to staff, and transporting residents.
  • Administer medications as appropriate and review medication records daily for errors and/or omissions.
  • Maintain and oversee medication records, including communicating with the pharmacy to obtain new prescriptions and refills.
  • Administer first aid to residents in response to minor medical problems.
  • Notify Resident Staff Supervisor and/or Program Director of any significant resident medical complaint.
  • Keep residents on established awake/asleep and activity schedules.
  • Guide residents in personal hygiene techniques and the proper care of their rooms and other living spaces.
  • Assist residents in meal preparation steps.
  • Guide and instruct residents in proper housekeeping and laundry procedures; supervise completion of daily chores.
  • Use good interpersonal communication skills to gain resident cooperation and resolve conflicts.
  • Exercise fair, firm, and consistent use of behavioral system (point sheet).
  • Exercise appropriate intervention in accordance with the least restrictive alternative to protect resident from harming self or others.
  • Review progress notes and staff log documentation daily for compliance with company standards.
Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a Virginia Board of Counseling approved Human Service degree or;
  • An Associate's Degree and at least three months experience working with children, or;
  • A High School Diploma or G.E.D with at least six months of experience working with children.
