Job Summary

This position is located in Manassas National Battlefield Park, in the Maintenance Division. The job announcement is open to receive applications from the first 100 applicants. The job announcement will remain open until either the quota of 100 applicants, or 10/04/2024 is reached. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration.

Responsibilities
  • Operates a truck under 26,000 GVW to pick up supplies and to transport materials and equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment, and related utilities.
  • Performs minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and masonry repairs.
  • Collects trash, cleans, and services chemical toilets, restrooms, and visitor facilities, and other park buildings.
  • Uses simple hand tools and power tools safely.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.
  • Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
  • You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
  • You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
  • A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 night per month.
Qualifications
  • To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT).
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading).
  • Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
  • Knowledge of materials.
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
  • Use of measuring instruments.
Volunteer Experience

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands

Works from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms and where surfaces to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach requiring the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.

Working Conditions

Work is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present. Also required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.

Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s, and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA.

Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months.

If they did not complete performance appraisals, ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service.

The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
