We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Billing Specialist to join our team at Community Action Corporation of South Texas. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of complex clerical and accounting functions for patient billing, including maintenance of third party billing records and resolution of insurance issues.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in obtaining pre-authorization from insurance carriers and compile and submit all required documentation.
- Process billings to patients and third party reimbursement claims, maintaining supporting documentation files and current patient addresses.
- Process patient statements, key data, post transactions, and verify accuracy of input to reports generated.
- Research and respond to patient inquiries regarding billing issues and problems.
- Work with staff to ensure correct diagnosis/procedures are reported to third party insurance carriers.
- Follow up on submitted claims, monitor unpaid claims, initiate tracers, and resubmit claims as necessary.
- Post and reconcile payments to patient ledgers.
- Balance daily batches and reports, prepare income reports and statistics, and distribute reports as requested.
- Follow and report status of delinquent accounts.
- Review accounts receivables and make recommendations to supervisor regarding collection.
- Maintain patient demographic information and data collection systems.
- Maintain billing/filing records in accordance with established protocol.
- Perform a variety of general clerical duties and other routine functions.
- Ensure strict confidentiality of financial records.
- Minimum of one year experience in a medical office setting.
- Two years of prior employment experience in medical billing.
- Computer skills and experience in maintaining automated recordkeeping systems.
- Good communication skills, written and oral, are necessary.
- Prefer bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Medical billing certification preferred; not required.
