Portland, Oregon, United States Intelligence and National Security Alliance Full time

Department Overview

The selected candidate will provide essential research services for funded initiatives and will work under the guidance of the supervisor to advance the university's objectives.

As a member of a diverse and collaborative research team, the appointee is expected to conduct scientific investigations independently, documenting the progress and results of experiments. The role includes training fellow researchers in various assays and analyses while overseeing their development.

The individual will offer expertise in histopathology, immunology, oncogenomics, cytogenetics, and DNA microarray techniques. They will also collaborate with computational scientists to assess and interpret complex omic datasets.

Responsibilities include independently conducting experiments with cellular and tissue samples using advanced molecular and cellular biology techniques, such as cell-based assays and in vivo studies. The appointee will evaluate de-identified patient samples for biomarkers related to therapy response.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop in vivo preclinical models to test hypotheses regarding immune regulatory mechanisms.
  2. Acquire and analyze microscopy images utilizing dark field, confocal, fluorescence, and multi-spectral microscopy techniques.
  3. Innovate multiplex fluorescence immunohistochemistry and multi-parameter molecular imaging of biological samples.
  4. Investigate signaling pathways through in vivo and tissue culture assays to determine modulation potential by targeted or immunologic agents.
  5. Design, execute, and interpret experiments aimed at identifying and manipulating genes and cellular functions in mouse models of breast cancer.
  6. Collaborate with clinical colleagues to validate hypotheses derived from preclinical studies using clinical trial specimens.
  7. Provide mentorship and training to students and postdoctoral researchers.
  8. Supervise and manage laboratory technicians dedicated to specific project goals.
  9. Contribute to research proposal writing to secure funding for projects.
  10. Engage with external collaborators in academia and biopharma to further immune-oncology initiatives.
  11. Present technical updates at group meetings, seminars, and scientific conferences, and prepare findings for publication in reputable journals.

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in a relevant scientific discipline, preferably in tumor immunology, and demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in research.

Applicants should have a minimum of five years of postdoctoral experience in a related research field, with proven capabilities in conducting in vivo preclinical studies, particularly in murine models of breast cancer, and expertise in histopathology, immunology, and quantitative imaging.

A solid background in utilizing mouse models and tissue samples for molecular and immunologic techniques is essential, along with experience in analyzing omic datasets using R.

The Intelligence and National Security Alliance values a diverse and culturally competent workforce, promoting equal opportunity and affirmative action principles. Individuals from diverse backgrounds and those who advocate for inclusivity are encouraged to apply.
