Job Description

Leidos is seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to support the design, qualification, and build of critical control systems for our Defense Department customers. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for optimizing production lines and driving results through the application of engineering and manufacturing principles, analysis, and techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish manufacturing sequences, processes, and develop required tooling and test fixtures for the completion of all elements of deliverable program hardware.
  • Provide on-going floor support and coordinate efforts in producibility and continuous process and product improvement.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, performance and product specifications, electronic files, supplier component specifications, and applicable design information.
  • Extract and develop manufacturing concepts and methods that will support customer and company requirements from electrical and mechanical drawings and related engineering data that defines multi-indentured assemblies and systems.
  • Provide input in concurrent engineering design activities to ensure producibility at the production phase of manufacturing.
  • Determine critical processes on which to perform trend analysis. Perform trend analysis on these processes to determine compliance to contractual requirements and to improve the manufacturing processes and capabilities.
  • Support the coordination of all elements of Material Review Board (MRB) efforts to implement corrective and preventive action.
  • Create assembly instructions to load into our Manufacturing Execution System (MES) or Build Assembly documentation, and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Develop manufacturing processes with formalized metrics that lead towards Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Apply lean manufacturing techniques to reduce cost and waste.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Department to implement Design For Assembly (DFA) concepts, participate in engineering technical reviews (as required), support First Article production, and develop the initial assembly work instructions for each new product.
  • Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Support QA in Investigations of failures/defects, support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to support continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • Eight+ years of experience designing or building electro-mechanical assemblies in an ISO 9001 or AS9100 production environment.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Management/leadership experience working with multiple disciplines to achieve common goals.
  • Experiencing setting up shop floors for varying production models (cell, assembly line, etc.) for optimal efficiency.
  • Able to read and comprehend engineering drawings, Bills of Materials, and operational procedures.
  • Can produce assembly and test documentation for the assigned products (with support from Engineering and Quality Assurance).
  • Experience in producibility engineering/ DFA in an electro-mechanical environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software.
  • Able to obtain a Secret security clearance. Must be a US Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four-year college degree in Industrial Technology, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related discipline plus related experience listed above.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification.
  • Microsoft SharePoint experience.
  • Deltek Costpoint ERP experience.
  • PTC Windchill PLM experience.
  • iBase-t SoluminaTM MES experience.
  • CAD proficiency; Dassault Systéms SolidWorks preferred.
  • Practitioner experience using a Manufacturing Execution System/MES; Solumina preferred.
