Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Real Estate Portfolio Manager to join our team at BMO. As a key member of our US Commercial Real Estate team, you will be responsible for facilitating decision-making and analysis of credit information to support lending decisions. You will maintain and promote a client service environment to satisfy and exceed customer needs and expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite, analyze, and prepare credit memos to support lending decisions.
  • Develop credit information to make lending decisions on new, renewal, and extension loans.
  • Review, analyze, and evaluate risks of new or existing business.
  • Manage and service a portfolio of existing loan relationships.
  • Ensure financial statements are spread and analyzed, addressing industry risks, monitoring collateral requirements, loan structuring and pricing, credit analysis, monitoring credit performance, and assisting with loan presentations.
  • Handle reporting on loans, including past dues, documentation, and collateral exceptions, financial performance updates, portfolio profitability, risk grades, etc.
  • Prepare summary reports, present facts, and offer opinions concerning credit worthiness.
  • Keep informed of financial and market trends in the portfolio and analyze those trends for the effect they will have on the portfolio.
  • Expand and build relationships with a high degree of resultant customer satisfaction.
  • Establish cross-selling initiatives to increase penetration with clients.
  • Apply deep expertise in bank products, processes, and systems and effectively troubleshoot to ensure a high-quality client experience.
  • May coordinate closing with the closing department, clients, and attorneys.
  • Serve as a daily escalation resource to ensure client expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to assigned business/group.
  • Influence and negotiate to achieve business objectives.
  • Recommend and implement solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business.
  • Conduct independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.
  • Help determine business priorities and best sequence for execution of business/group strategy.
  • Act as the prime subject matter expert for internal/external stakeholders.
  • Participate in the development of financial models and other analytical tools to assist clients in evaluating capital structure.
  • Design and produce regular and ad-hoc reports and dashboards.
  • Maintain current on financing trends in target clients' markets and communicate same to team members.
  • Oversee preparation of concise, well-reasoned credit correspondence.
  • Coordinate the preparation of lending proposals and pitches to prospective clients with efforts to maximize penetration and returns.
  • Negotiate transactions with clients and provide deal structuring expertise.
  • Oversee documentation and ongoing monitoring of asset and client performance.
  • May manage workflow of other analysts by aligning tasks with departmental goals and objectives.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders for accurate, detailed client information.
  • Assist in negotiations of terms and conditions of all decisions made via phone and e-mail interaction with clients.
  • Minimize BMO's risk exposure by adhering to internal credit policies and procedures with respect to lending decisions.
  • Provide input into the planning and implementation of operational programs.
  • Build effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
  • Provide specialized consulting, analytical, and technical support.
  • Exercise judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
  • Work independently and regularly handle non-routine situations.
  • Broad work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in Portfolio Management.
  • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency in Commercial Real Estate Portfolio Management.
  • Experience in analyzing Credit Information and making Credit Decisions.
  • Experience in supporting Lending Decisions.
  • Verbal and written communication skills - In-depth.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $87,000 - $161,400 per year, with a pay type of Salaried. BMO Financial Group's total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards. BMO also offers health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
