Regional Environmental Specialist

Role Summary

POSITION TITLE: Regional Environmental Specialist

LOCATION: Various locations

ROLE SUMMARY:
  • Oversee all facets of environmental compliance at designated facilities.
  • Ensure that all environmental permits, policies, and procedures are current and that plant personnel comprehend their compliance implications.
  • Execute all responsibilities with a commitment to integrity and ethical standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage the environmental permitting process for designated sites to ensure all operating permits remain valid; prepare and submit compliance reports; maintain comprehensive records for regulatory compliance; represent Imerys during environmental inspections.
  • Collaborate with the Regional EHS Manager and Plant Team to develop and implement proactive compliance strategies, procedures, and training to meet environmental regulations.
  • Initiate and prepare environmental permit applications ahead of expiration and address any follow-up inquiries from regulatory agencies.
  • Provide technical support for daily environmental operations, including waste sampling and characterization for offsite disposal; conduct required environmental sampling and stack testing; offer regulatory guidance for air and wastewater treatment operations.
  • Mitigate local environmental impacts through pollution control, waste management, conservation efforts, and compliance with water management legislation.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; ability to engage effectively with colleagues, vendors, regulatory personnel, and legal advisors.
  • Proficient in utilizing databases, spreadsheets, presentations, and word processing software.
  • Ability to meet regulatory deadlines consistently.
  • Competent in conducting environmental audits and training sessions.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental compliance, permitting, and regulatory interpretation.
  • Experience in environmental fields related to compliance, permitting, and reporting.
  • Certifications such as CHMM or QEP are advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Proficient in Google Sheets and Slides.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • 40% Office-based activities focused on environmental compliance tasks.
  • 50% Fieldwork in plant and mining operations involving environmental sampling and compliance reporting.
  • 40% Travel to various locations for compliance and professional engagements.
