Regional Environmental Specialist
Job Summary
POSITION TITLE: Regional Environmental Specialist
LOCATION: Various Locations
JOB SUMMARY:
- Oversee all facets of environmental compliance at designated facilities.
- Ensure that all environmental permits, policies, and procedures are current and that personnel are informed of their compliance implications.
- Maintain a high level of integrity while fulfilling the responsibilities outlined below.
- Manage the environmental permitting process for East Hub sites to ensure all operating permits remain valid; prepare and submit necessary compliance reports; maintain comprehensive records for compliance verification with regulatory bodies; represent Imerys during environmental compliance inspections.
- Collaborate with the Regional EHS Manager and Plant Team to implement proactive compliance strategies, procedures, programs, and training to ensure adherence to environmental permits and regulations.
- Initiate and develop environmental permit applications prior to expiration and address any follow-up inquiries from regulatory agencies.
- Provide technical support for daily environmental operations, including waste sampling and characterization for offsite disposal; implement required environmental sampling and stack testing; offer regulatory support for air pollution and wastewater treatment operations.
- Mitigate local environmental impacts through pollution control measures, waste management plans, conservation efforts, and compliance with water management legislation.
- Strong written, verbal, and technical communication skills; attention to detail; ability to engage effectively with colleagues, external vendors, regulatory representatives, and legal advisors.
- Proficient in using databases, spreadsheets, presentations, and word processing software.
- Demonstrated ability to meet regulatory deadlines diligently.
- Competent in conducting environmental audits and training sessions.
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, a related field, or Chemical Engineering.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental compliance, interpretation, and permitting for large facilities.
- Experience in environmental regulatory compliance, interpretation, permitting, and reporting.
- Certifications in EHS such as CHMM, QEP, etc., are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Proficient in Google Sheets (Excel) and Slides (PowerPoint).
- 40% Office Setting - Involves environmental compliance activities using a computer, with minor lifting as needed.
- 50% Field Activities - Involves variable tasks in plant and mining operations, including environmental sampling and compliance data collection; requires physical activity such as climbing and carrying equipment.
- 40% Travel - Includes visits to other Imerys locations, consultant/vendor sites, and professional gatherings.
