Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States Massachusetts Institute of Technology Full time

Job Title: Senior Research Scientist for Synthetic Biology

Location: Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per year

About the Job:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Postdoctoral Associate to join our research team at MIT. As a Senior Research Scientist for Synthetic Biology, you will work closely with Professor Domitilla Del Vecchio on a project focused on the robust multiplexing of bacterial sensors for environmental monitoring.

About the Project:

The ultimate goal of this project is to engineer bacterial communities that implement multiplexed biosensing, robustly to environmental changes, for deployment in soil or water. You will be responsible for developing genetic circuit design tools for the accurate operation of multiple biosensors concurrently in the same bacterial cell, and across multiple cell strains, with performance that is robust to changes in the environment, including temperature and other growth conditions.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, molecular biology, microbiology, or a closely related field
  • Experience with synthetic biology and genetic circuit design, fabrication, debugging, and testing
  • Self-motivation and ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students with a predominantly modeling background
  • PREFERRED: Some expertise in physics-based mathematical modeling of genetic circuits

What We Offer:

  • A one-year position with the possibility of extension to a second year provided funds are available and satisfactory progress is made

About Our Team:

We are a dynamic and collaborative research team at MIT, dedicated to advancing the field of synthetic biology. If you are passionate about using your skills to make a positive impact on the world, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
