Transportation Operations Manager

The Transportation Manager will oversee the Transportation department, ensuring a culture focused on people, safety, service, and cost. This role will manage personnel and drive efficient transportation operations, ensuring safe, accurate, and timely daily outbound shipments to customers and other distribution centers.
Key Responsibilities- Safety First: Lead with a safety mindset, ensuring every US Foods associate, customer, and the general public remain injury-free. Champion safety procedures, processes, and training to create a safety-first culture.
- Driver Development: Oversee and develop drivers and Transportation associates through one-on-one coaching, training on policy and procedures, and leading by example.
- Performance Management: Oversee and develop drivers and Transportation associates by discussing performance with Sr. Transportation Managers and creating plans to address gaps.
- Communication and Motivation: Create an atmosphere encouraging upward communication and motivate associates to achieve department goals and objectives.
- Team Supervision: Direct and supervise the work and productivity of drivers and clerical associates within the Transportation department.
- Team Building: Build high-performing teams by participating in interviewing and hiring Transportation personnel, reviewing performance, coaching on service and safety targets, and delivering disciplinary action.
- Problem-Solving: Monitor production goals, maintain a zero-error attitude, and ensure accuracy and customer satisfaction. Anticipate, analyze, and troubleshoot problems with deliveries and devise cost-effective and legal solutions.
- Process Improvement: Identify and stop waste, and improve processes to complete work more safely and efficiently.
- Safety Meetings: Conduct routine Safety and Driver Meetings.
- Accident Investigation: Oversee the maintenance of driver qualification files and investigate all accidents, maintaining an accident file, tracking causes, and taking appropriate preventative action.
- Scheduling: Effectively schedule working shifts by leveraging appropriate planning tools.
- Experience: Minimum of three years of experience in transportation/delivery or warehouse distribution required.
- Leadership: Minimum of one year of experience overseeing a workforce required.
- Knowledge and Skills: Broad knowledge of transportation/delivery operations, methods, and procedures. Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills. Strong understanding of DOT requirements and familiarity with inventory control, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
This role may require significant time on the road, exposed to noise and vibration levels. The Transportation Manager will also spend time in an office working on a computer.
CompensationCompensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law. The expected base rate for this role is between $55,000.00 and $90,000.00. This role will also receive an annual incentive plan bonus.
