Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transportation Operations Director to oversee the daily transportation services and supervise the assigned transportation operations areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering and analyzing procedures, guidelines, and measurement criteria governing operations of the school buses, developing and implementing procedures and processes to ensure efficient and effective transportation services, and providing professional leadership and promoting quality customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide daily leadership and supervision of the transportation specialists and area office staff, establishing clear performance objectives, guidelines, and procedures to perform job duties.
  • Serve as a mentor in regards to supervision, management, customer service, personnel actions, and other functions related to the position to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and practices.
  • Develop, implement, distribute, and modify, as needed, performance standards and guidelines for school bus drivers and operations.
  • Review, recommend, and ensure accountability of personnel, equipment, and other resources needed and utilized by the transportation area offices.
  • Produce, compile, and analyze daily, weekly, and monthly reports demonstrating levels of assigned staff performance.
  • Oversee the implementation of changes to school bus operations resulting from changes to federal, state, and local laws and BOE policies, recommending staff position changes, additions, or deletions to ensure the best possible level of service.
  • Investigate and resolve internal and external customer concerns, correcting any deficiencies in operation to avoid repeated issues.
  • Attend district meetings as it relates to transportation services, including principal meetings, community forums, and/or district planning meetings as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Assist in the development, design, and implementation of criteria for the establishment of bus stops, runs, and routes in conjunction with the Routing and Scheduling Manager.
  • Manage and supervise 4-5 direct reports and non-direct reports.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • 5 years but less than 7 years of previous experience required.
  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to organize and manage people, organize and analyze data and statistics, read, comprehend, and apply applicable state laws, Board of Education policies, develop programs and guidelines to meet department objectives, and develop, initiate, and monitor performance standards for transportation operations division.
Physical Requirements
  • Use skills requiring repetitive motor coordination with finger dexterity; 5 to 8 hours of a normal work shift.
  • Required to exert physical effort; rarely required to exert physical effort.
