Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Business Intelligence Director to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of business intelligence solutions that drive strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business intelligence strategy that aligns with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Lead a team of analysts and developers in the design, development, and implementation of business intelligence solutions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify business needs and develop solutions that meet those needs.
  • Design and implement data warehouses, data marts, and other data management solutions.
  • Develop and maintain complex data models, data transformations, and ETL processes.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and security.
  • Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in business intelligence and data analytics.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business, Mathematics, or similar analytical field.
  • 10+ years of experience working in analytics, business intelligence, reporting, or similar data-related functions in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience leading and managing large and complex BI projects across multiple business functions.
  • Experience reviewing and streamlining business processes, including gathering and documenting requirements, developing and implementing new processes and procedures.
  • Strong experience in data modeling, database design, data integration, transformation, and ETL techniques.
  • Extensive programming experience in Python for building data pipelines and automating data processes.
  • Extensive experience in developing, maintaining and managing Tableau driven dashboards & analytics and working knowledge of Tableau administration and architecture.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with and effectively communicate complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working with governance, data management, KPI development, and BI reporting management teams.
  • Demonstrated experience with staff development, mentoring, and oversight.
  • Prior working experience in higher education organizations.
  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, and/or MBA candidates are preferred.
  • Experience with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines.
