Overview of the MDS Coordinator Role

The ideal candidate for this role is a detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated individual who is also able to provide bedside care and meet with families. They should have knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect information to complete the MDS using the medical record, bedside assessment, and staff, resident, and/or family interviews.
  • Participate in daily PPS meetings, weekly Medicare meetings, and month-end meetings to ensure federal billing requirements are met.
  • Review the Plan of Care at least quarterly and with each Comprehensive Assessment to ensure changes during the quarter are included and updated.
  • Provide ongoing education of the RAI process to all interdisciplinary team members, direct and indirect caregivers, business office, etc.
Requirements
  • Registered Nurse with current state licensure.
  • Minimum three years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting, with long-term care experience preferred.
  • Minimum one year of MDS experience.
