Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled HLA Technologist to join our team at Emory Healthcare. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing routine assays and general clerical tasks, as well as high-complexity histocompatibility testing on various types of clinical samples.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine assays and general clerical tasks
  • Perform high-complexity histocompatibility testing on various types of clinical samples
  • Test may include: HLA antibody screen and identification, crossmatching, typing, and engraftment monitoring
  • Analyze and evaluate results, and generate and evaluate clinical reports
  • Perform initial review of sample processing, tests preparation, testing results, and generates reports
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control procedures and initiates corrective action for errors, as needed
  • Participate in equipment maintenance, instrumentation calibration, quality control and documentation, and maintains adequate levels of supplies and equipment
  • Must be able to take on-call assignments in one discipline for nights, holidays, and weekends on a rotating basis
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or a chemical, physical or biological science
  • Other bachelor's degree will be accepted if graduated from an accredited school of medical technology or if science and math coursework meet requirement of certifying agency
  • Bachelor's degree may be waived for a medical technologist who was ASCP certified in the years prior to the bachelor's degree requirement by ASCP and a HEW/HHS technologist certified by Health and Human Services
  • For non-medical technology degrees, must pass certification exam within 18 months after completion of one year of training as a Histocompatibility Technician
  • For Medical Technology degrees, must pass certification exam within 18 months of employment
  • Certification must be obtained by one of the following accreditation agencies: MT (ASCP), MLS(ASCP) or categorical, MT(NCA), MT(AMT), MT(HHS or HEW), CHT(ABHI), CHS(ABHI)
