POSITION OVERVIEW: The individual in this role is accountable for welcoming patients both via telephone and in-person with a friendly demeanor. Responsibilities include registering and interviewing patients to gather precise demographic and financial details while managing appointment scheduling. Additional duties may encompass returning calls, organizing follow-up tests, referrals, and securing prior authorizations. This position also involves assisting patients, nursing staff, and healthcare providers in delivering care within the clinical environment. Responsibilities include measuring vital signs and collecting the history of the primary complaint for the visit. The role requires performing various Point of Care Testing and documenting results to ensure quality control for each test conducted.
QualificationsESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: A High School Diploma or GED is mandatory. Successful completion of a nursing assistant, EMT, or medical assistant training program is required. Alternatively, two (2) years of experience in a licensed medical facility as a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant may be accepted in place of formal education.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required. The candidate will be expected to achieve certification as a medical assistant within one (1) year of employment.
SKILLS:
- Exceptional service excellence skills to ensure high-quality patient care and satisfaction.
- Proficient knowledge and skills for obtaining vital signs and handling Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Strong organizational abilities; excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.
- Capability to collaborate effectively with others; ability to work independently is also required.
- Proactive in identifying opportunities for performance improvement.
- Competence in navigating computer software using a mouse, keyboard, or stylus, along with familiarity with Windows-based applications.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one year of medical experience involving direct patient interaction is preferred.
SUPERVISION:
- Reports to: Clinic Manager
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Requires an understanding of general safety protocols to minimize exposure to infectious diseases. Daily interaction with infectious materials and bodily fluids is expected.
- Bloodborne Pathogens: C
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The role involves bending, stooping, and lifting up to 35 lbs, reaching above head and below knee level. Proper body mechanics must be utilized. Long periods of sitting may be required. Keyboard usage should adhere to sound ergonomic principles. Flexibility in work schedule is necessary.
