About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Lead I to join our team at Nucor Steel Auburn. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our heavy manufacturing facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Supervision: Provide guidance and oversight to maintenance personnel, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Work with millwright and maintenance teams to perform preventative maintenance repairs, scheduled repair projects, and normal production.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot mechanical problems and assist with unscheduled repairs as needed.
  • Inspections and Reporting: Perform daily inspections on millwright equipment and report any defects or needed repairs to supervisors.
  • Yard Operations: Responsible for the daily operation, production, and maintenance of the yard.
  • Employee Management: Assign duties, breaks, and lunches to all hourly and temporary employees in your assigned department to ensure production is not lost.
  • Confidentiality and Professionalism: Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when working with yard personnel.
  • Adaptability: Ability to perform all jobs associated with the yard as needed and adapt to frequent changes of priority.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that processed scrap meets specifications for customers.
  • Material Flow: Work daily with managers and different departments to provide proper flow of materials to meet production schedules and optimize savings.
  • Inventory Management: Supervise the placement of scrap into/from inventory piles, inventory control, including raw materials and finished goods.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of 1-year previous managerial or supervisory experience in heavy manufacturing environments, preferably in the scrap metal or construction industries.
  • Industrial Experience: Minimum 3 years previous experience in an industrial/outdoor work environment and operating heavy equipment.
  • Administrative Skills: Excellent administrative and computer skills with strong organization skills and a demonstrated ability to problem-solve.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to interface effectively with customers and company personnel at all levels, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to work standing or walking for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Mechanical Abilities: Strong mechanical abilities (welding, fabrication, knowledge of tools, etc.).
  • Attendance and Flexibility: Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency, with flexibility to work off hours, weekends, and holidays, including overtime and six days a week as required by production.
