Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Purchasing Agent to join our team at University Hospitals. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will be responsible for procuring pharmaceutical and departmental supplies, managing administrative duties, and providing recommendations for cost-saving measures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Purchase all pharmaceutical products for the institution, ensuring compliance with contracts and regulations.
  • Provide pharmaceutical acquisition services to non-pharmacy departments to meet their specific needs.
  • Achieve significant operational savings and efficiencies through the identification and implementation of procurement strategies.
  • Interface with Accounts Payable and Receiving to clear mismatches and ensure timely payment.
  • Participate in prudent and effective inventory management to minimize waste and optimize stock levels.
  • Purchase innovation is expected to yield improved non-salary expenses.
  • Participate in the UH System Pharmacy Buyer group to share best practices and stay up-to-date on industry developments.
  • Perform Pharmacy Technician II duties as needed.
Requirements
  • High School Equivalent/GED (Required)
  • 1+ years of experience as a pharmacy purchasing agent in a hospital or community setting (Required)
  • Ability to work on a team to analyze and recommend contract awards and lead in the implementation of agreements to achieve reduced costs.
  • Ability to influence customers to apply contracts for use.
  • Project management skills a plus.
  • Knowledge of healthcare purchasing practices and regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Exhibiting strong organizational skills and work ethic.
  • Demonstrates professional demeanor when responding to customers/patients.
  • Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office, and Windows.
  • Familiar with operation of standard office equipment.
  • ERP experience a plus (e.g., Oracle, Lawson, SAP, PeopleSoft).
  • Functional knowledge of pharmacy automation equipment.
Working Conditions

This role requires standing, walking, sitting, and occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing. Repetitive motions and eye/hand/foot coordination are also required.
