Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to join our team at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. As a critical care registered nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced operating room environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate patient care using the nursing process.
  • Maintain current competencies and skill levels required for work/specialty area.
  • Participate in quality and performance improvement programs.
  • Orient and train assigned personnel and students.
  • Provide direction to other members of the patient care team to coordinate all aspects of a nursing unit/department for assigned shift.
  • Assess effectiveness of direction given and problem solve issues regarding patient care.
  • Administer IV's and medications per protocol/policy, observing and documenting patient's response.
  • Verify patient's identity/ID band before treatments and procedures.
  • Write initial nursing history, assess patient's conditions, and develop and update individual plans of care for patients assigned to the unit/department.
  • Conduct patient care conferences.
  • Monitor physiologic, cognitive status of patients and timely report changes to physicians and/or other appropriate personnel, including follow-up on lab/test results.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care, including identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings, and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills, and/or activities that place patients at risk.
  • Communicate effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner.
  • Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, timely consult with other care providers as warranted, and adjust nursing care interventions appropriately to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Prepare patient/families for scheduled procedures and tests.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized education and teaching plans, discharge plans, and protocols for patient family, and/or significant other in accordance with patient needs and department standards.
  • Demonstrate effective team leader/charge nurse skills, including hourly patient rounds.
  • Provide a safe, therapeutic environment for patient and families.
  • Use patient restraints appropriately, documenting observations/interventions completely.
  • Document in a clear, complete, legible, organized, and timely manner, demonstrating skill in the nursing process and critical thinking.
  • Monitor and ensure accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
  • Identify and communicate problems regarding ethical issues that may surface between professionals and patients.
  • Demonstrate respect for patient rights.
  • Answer telephone and patient call lights in a prompt and courteous manner, addressing callers and patients appropriately by name and/or title.
  • Perform efficiently in crisis and emergency situations, following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with changing patient assignments, varying staffing levels, and patient care environment.
  • Complete work on time.
  • Support and adhere to established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Incorporate Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center's mission of 'quality care with compassion and respect' into daily performance of job functions.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to patient's comfort and privacy (confidentiality).
  • Act as patient advocate.
  • Cooperate with other personnel in a positive manner to achieve departmental and interdepartmental objectives and maintain good employee relations.
  • Cooperate and collaborate with physicians assisting with patient examinations and procedures.
  • Demonstrate effective communication methods and skills, using lines of authority appropriately.
  • Adapt approaches based on recognized cultural and religious diversity.
  • Ensure adequate stock of supplies and proper function of equipment, including quality control monitoring as needed.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for cost containment, conservation of supplies, and equipment, as well as other organizational resources.

Requirements:

  • Minimum one (1) year recent experience in a critical care setting preferred.
  • One (1) year recent experience in an operating room setting preferred.

Shift and Hours:

Varied shift, 12 hours per shift, 36 hours per week.

Job Type:

Non-Exempt, Full-Time.
