Job Overview

The role of an instrument repair technician involves the timely and skilled restoration of musical instruments, ensuring they are returned to customers in optimal playing condition. Technicians may focus on a specific category of instruments or handle a variety of types.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct cleaning and repairs on at least one category of instruments, including brass, woodwind, orchestral, or percussion.
  • Provide accurate estimates for instrument repairs.
  • Adhere to a schedule to guarantee that tasks are completed within the estimated time and budget.
  • Work on both customer-owned and retail instruments, ranging from student models to professional-grade instruments.
  • Deliver high-quality work at an hourly rate that exceeds the shop's standard rate.
  • Perform additional tasks as required, such as assisting at repair clinics or educational events.

Qualifications:

Essential Experience:

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship or diploma from an accredited repair institution.
  • A minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience working with musical instruments is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment.
  • Comfortable with standing, sitting, and walking for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling instruments and cases weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Exposure to mild cleaning chemical odors.
