The primary role of the Paramedic is to deliver medical assistance and transportation for patients at the EMT-P level, adhering to the guidelines set forth by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Medical Director of our system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional care to patients during transport, following the directives of the Program Medical Director and collaborating physicians, in line with established policies, protocols, and care standards.
  • Independently assess critically ill or injured individuals across all age groups, offering therapeutic and emergency interventions while preparing for transport.
  • Work in partnership with team members, including drivers, colleagues, leadership, healthcare partners, and customers.
  • Organize and prepare equipment and supplies for use in emergency situations before, during, and after transport.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation, engage in quality assurance initiatives, collect data, and participate in special projects.
  • Ensure clinical proficiency in all areas of practice, including management of neurological, cardiac, pediatric, obstetrical, traumatic emergencies, and other patient populations.
  • Complete all transports initiated within the scheduled shift timeframe, recognizing that some may extend beyond standard working hours.
  • Stay current with all safety education requirements as mandated by Edward Ambulance.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills with all stakeholders, including patients and their families, hospital personnel, community members, and Edward Ambulance staff and administration.
  • Represent Edward Ambulance in a professional and courteous manner.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of pre-employment testing, including a comprehensive physical examination and lifting agility assessment, along with a successful interview.
  • Field experience is preferred.
