Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Theater Production Supervisor to join our team at the UCLA Theater. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in overseeing the theatrical lighting program, training lighting design students, and ensuring the smooth operation of all Department of Theater activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and train teaching assistants and technicians to ensure the effective execution of lighting designs and programs.
  • Coordinate with production staff, faculty, and students to ensure seamless production operations, including scheduling equipment usage and tracking inventories.
  • Develop and implement safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Manage and maintain associated lighting equipment and facilities, including the acquisition and maintenance of new equipment.
  • Provide supervision and management services for theater rentals and non-academic projects, ensuring timely and efficient execution.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area, such as theater production, lighting design, or a related field, and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Strong knowledge of lighting design and electricity as applied to theatrical lighting systems, including the use of ETC, Strand, and other computer control consoles.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the use and applications of lighting equipment to personnel with varying levels of experience.
  • Ability to work safely at considerable heights and use ladders, lifts, and scaffolds, with a working knowledge of safety precautions necessary when working with these equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of AutoCAD and/or VectorWorks and Lightwright software.
  • Ability to use PC to perform word processing, record keeping functions, and cue sheet tracking functions, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Working Conditions
  • The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent deadlines and changing priorities.
  • The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Special Conditions of Employment
  • A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
