Music Therapist: Acute Care Specialist

Job Summary:Under the general supervision of the Manager of Patient Care and Integrated Therapies, the Music Therapist: Acute Care Specialist will provide comprehensive music therapy services for patients and family members that meet the emotional, physical, cognitive, social/cultural, and communicative needs.
Responsibilities:- Provides music therapy services for patients and families at end of life in collaboration with the psychosocial team.
- Provides in-service education.
- Documents music therapy interventions in patient charts.
- Communicates effectively with multidisciplinary team, manager, and creative arts team members on clinical care planning and issues revealed through music therapy sessions.
- Develops and maintains graduate music therapy practicum and internship program through collaboration with local universities and management team.
- Supervises volunteers and interns to students providing music-based interventions.
- Maintains accurate music therapy statistics and data.
- Bachelor's degree in Arts Therapy, Psychology, or related field or equivalent education/experience.
- Board Certification in Music Therapy within 1 year of hire, with completion of internship in Music Therapy.
- Familiar with basic activities therapies, devices, and equipment, and the ability to adapt activities to various levels of patient function and skill level.
- Working knowledge of The Joint Commission, Title 22, and Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987 (OBRA) as they relate to activities therapy.
- General understanding of medical terminology, including working proficiency in activity interest surveys, Minimum Data Set (MDS), and Resident Assessment Protocol (RAP) evaluations.
- Possesses solid written/verbal communication, interpersonal, and teaching skills to explain treatments, diagnoses, or sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences.
- Program development/administration skills, including effective group leadership skills.
- Attention to detail with good time management with sound observation and organizational skills.
- Basic experience with computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and EPIC.
- Ability to work in an environment with aged, chronically ill, disoriented, and sometimes contentious patients.
- Ability to prioritize assignments under varied and urgent conditions and work within procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
- Ability to perform detailed tasks thoroughly and completely, using existing procedures to identify and solve routine or standard problems.
- Ability to ensure the privacy of each patient's Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with patients, their families/caregivers, peers, and other healthcare providers (physicians, nurses, etc.) to provide the highest quality of patient care.
