The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta is dedicated to fostering equity and shared prosperity within our community.

As a key member of the finance team, the Staff Accountant will undertake essential accounting functions such as preparing journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules, overseeing daily banking activities, reconciling bank accounts, and accurately recording all transactions within the accounting system.

This role encompasses various responsibilities across the Foundation's accounting department, including gifts, grants, special events, and operational support, offering valuable exposure to different organizational functions.

As the department adapts to align with the Foundation's strategic goals, there will be opportunities for this individual to contribute to process enhancements and develop their professional skills.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor daily banking activities and ensure accurate transaction recording in the accounting system.
  • Process all gifts, including stock gifts, to ensure timely liquidation and proper fund allocation.
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts monthly, including planned gifts and bank accounts.
  • Manage gift receipting and acknowledgment processes, ensuring prompt and tailored communication with donors.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to track and manage pledges and gifts, generating internal revenue reports.
  • Prepare new fund setups in the general ledger and monthly allocation journal entries.
  • Record month-end close journal entries accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Review interfund gifts and grants requests.
  • Work with supporting organizations to ensure accurate transaction recording and reconciliations.
  • Act as a liaison for special events, managing day-to-day accounting transactions and reporting.
  • Analyze processes and controls, proposing and implementing improvements.
  • Stay updated on accounting best practices and industry developments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Controller and Controller.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant accounting experience with a Bachelor's degree in accounting; nonprofit experience is preferred.
  • Experience in corporate accounting, payroll, and familiarity with multiple accounting systems is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit, fund, consolidation, and investment accounting principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, along with Outlook and Word.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented with strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Proactive in investigating discrepancies and suggesting process improvements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

The Foundation operates in a hybrid work environment, allowing staff to work both in-office and remotely.


Compensation:

Salary will be determined based on experience and qualifications, with an anticipated range of $65,000-$70,000.

This position is exempt and eligible for the Foundation's comprehensive health and benefits plan, which includes:

  • Two weeks of accrued paid vacation.
  • Two weeks of accrued paid sick leave.
  • Four mental health days.
  • Two personal days and two floating holidays.
  • Ten holidays.

Benefits are effective on the date of hire, with 100% employer-paid coverage for employee-only insurance plans, life insurance, and disability coverage.

Immediate eligibility for employee contributions to a 403b plan, with employer contributions after one year of service.

Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for team members, along with wellness resources and employee engagement activities, are also provided.
