About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Intuitive Surgical. As a key member of our Product Engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing electromechanical systems for our robotic platforms.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanism design, electro-mechanical systems, and complex medical product design. You will be comfortable with all phases of the product development lifecycle, including design, implementation, debug, verification, qualification, and transfer.

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to maintain and improve the design, production, and service of our IonTM System. You will be expected to utilize creativity and sound engineering judgment in the design of medical capital equipment, collaborating with highly cross-functional teams to ensure our products provide value to patients and customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive cross-functional teams with ownership to maintain and improve the design, production, and service of the IonTM System.
  • Investigate and determine the root cause of complex problems with electro-mechanical components, manufacturing process, and system performance.
  • Develop, design, test, document, and implement solutions to the root causes identified for improved performance and reliability.
  • Provide advice, mentoring, coaching, and guidance to advance the technical and business expertise of colleagues.
Requirements

Minimum 8 years of experience designing electromechanical products and integration into manufacturing.

Technical expertise in mechanism design with priority to robotics, electro-mechanical systems, or complex medical product design.

Self-driven with the ability to excel in a high-energy, small, focused team environment and maintain a strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward.

Capacity to lead multiple complex projects in parallel and independently prioritize activities across projects, ensuring high quality and delivery of the projects.

Preferred Qualifications

Curiosity and excitement to learn new subjects and get to the bottom of tough technical problems.

Proven ability to run teams, manage stakeholders, and mentor other engineers.

Ability to communicate effectively (written, oral) across all levels and organizations.

Experience in a regulated environment (FDA, Military, FAA or equivalent).
