Position Overview

Under minimal supervision, the Diagnostic Sonographer is responsible for conducting both routine and advanced cardiac ultrasound examinations. This role includes leading the clinical and support staff within the cardiac sonography department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Expertise: Demonstrates proficiency in cardiac sonography across various settings and patient demographics. Selects appropriate equipment and technical parameters tailored to each patient, ensuring care is suitable for their age and condition.
    • Utilizes knowledge of sonographic principles, including anatomy, physiology, and patient care practices. Complies with regulatory standards set by relevant authorities.
    • Engages actively in departmental initiatives aimed at enhancing performance and patient satisfaction, while also serving as a mentor for students and new staff.
    • Participates in the Clinical Ladder Program, if applicable, fulfilling all associated standards and requirements.
  • Leadership and Workflow Management: Directs the clinical and ancillary staff within the cardiac sonography department, ensuring efficient operational workflows. Responsible for maintaining the inventory of departmental supplies.
  • Quality Assurance: Conducts quality assurance measures, identifies equipment issues, and ensures timely resolution through appropriate channels. Addresses clinical and operational challenges, escalating as necessary.
  • Staff Development: Provides constructive feedback on staff performance, facilitates training and orientation for new personnel, and collaborates with department leadership on budgetary and performance evaluations.
  • Documentation Oversight: Ensures accurate documentation of patient care activities within electronic health record systems.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Completion of an accredited Ultrasound Educational Program.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years in the field.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • RDMS Certification or CCI Certification.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification.
