Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Laboratory Technician to join our team at the University of Vermont. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a study of a new pleural and tracheal sealant, including study planning and performing technical procedures such as medication administration, anesthesia, surgical procedures, injections, blood collection, harvesting tissues or organs, post-op analgesia administration, post-operative monitoring and care, and maintaining detailed records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine checkups and coordinate animal care and studies in the University research facilities, including small and large animal facilities.
  • Train laboratory personnel, animal care staff, and students.
  • Maintain healthy animals in accordance with "The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals", legislation as mandated by local, state, and Federal agencies, and guidelines set forth by the AAALAC International.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in animal science or related field and two to three years of animal laboratory experience; or an Associate's degree in veterinary technology and five years' experience required.
  • AALAS certifications (ALAT, LAT & LATg) required or the ability to obtain.
  • A valid driver's license and background check are required.
What We Offer
  • Anticipated pay range: $28/hr - $33/hr.
  • Special conditions: External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period. Contingent on continued funding, a probationary period may be required for current UVM employees. This position is ineligible for telework due to the essential functions. Background check required for this position.
