Position Title: Lead for Recycling and Waste Management

Job Summary:

Under the general oversight of the Recycling and Waste Management Coordinator, the incumbent will function as a working lead for the Recycling and Waste Management Program.

This role may involve taking charge of the team in the absence of a supervisor.

The responsibilities include executing specialized tasks, delegating and supervising work orders, ensuring their completion and documentation, clarifying tasks for team members, aiding in the training of staff, maintaining records of time and materials, and supporting performance assessments as needed.

The Lead will receive general guidance from their supervisor and is expected to provide leadership at least 30% of the time.

Collaboration with Recycling Sorters and the Recycling Specialist will be essential to ensure the successful completion of daily tasks and projects.

Department Overview:

The Facilities Services Department is dedicated to fostering an outstanding campus environment that supports the mission of research, education, healthcare, and community service.

With over 400 professional staff, the department manages more than $90 million in operating funds to achieve its objectives in maintaining the campus environment.

The department is structured into five distinct units:
(1) Mission Bay/East Campus Operations, (2) Parnassus/West Campus Operations, (3) Infrastructure & Utilities Services, (4) Customer Service & Technology, and (5) Strategic Organization Development.

All leaders within the department are expected to cultivate a fair, equitable, safe, and supportive work environment, enabling everyone to perform at their best.

Required Qualifications:

Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations; two years of experience in semi-skilled building maintenance work, or one year as a Senior Building Maintenance Worker; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in basic computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions when necessary.
Exhibits a professional demeanor in the workplace.
Valid California Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a university or medical center environment.

Two years of experience in the recycling sector.

Ability to troubleshoot large equipment (compactors, tippers, electrical carts, etc.).

License/Certification:

Valid California Driver's License.
