Pediatric Oncology Patient Navigator

Job Summary:

The Pediatric Oncology Patient Navigator plays a vital role in providing individualized assistance and support to patients and families throughout their care journey with Pediatric Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). As a resource and advocate, this position ensures patients have full, equitable, and convenient access to clinical services and health education information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop expertise in operations and systems underlying Pediatric Oncology care at UCSF, including interdepartmental support for patients receiving care outside of Oncology Services.
  • Provide patient care coordination by serving as a communication bridge between patients, families, and practitioners, guiding them to a broad range of services, amenities, and information to promote healing and satisfaction.
  • Act as a liaison to understand patients' non-clinical individual needs, desires, and concerns, and develop solutions to address them.
  • Remain current on inpatient care protocols, particularly Phase I protocols, and attend tumor boards and other meetings to stay informed about patient care and development of new protocols.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a healthcare environment (3+ years)
  • Strong knowledge of Patient Rights & Responsibilities, Joint Commission standards, and Centers for Medicare/Medicaid regulations
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to develop solutions and recommend changes
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
