Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Nurse - Medical Occupational Health Specialist to join our team at Spring Branch Independent School District. As a key member of our health services team, you will be responsible for implementing and managing our school health program, providing preventive care, health education, and promoting a healthy school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement health screening programs according to district and state guidelines.
  • Provide direct care to students, utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, and established school health protocols.
  • Serve as a health advocate for students, notifying parents of accidents or illnesses and securing medical care as needed.
  • Administer medications according to district policy and procedures.
  • Develop and coordinate continuing evaluation of campus health program and make changes based on findings.
  • Participate in development of campus health education curriculum and provide health education to individuals and groups.
  • Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students, and develop a health management plan for students with specialized health care needs.
  • Serve as a primary member of the school crisis intervention team and provide health counseling for students, parents, and staff.
  • Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals, working with students, teachers, parents, and medical and health care professionals as needed.
  • Collaborate with other professionals regarding implementation of health-related Individual Education Plan (IEP) items.
  • Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
  • Make home visits to help with student health problems as necessary, with permission of the principal.
  • Communicate regularly with the principal, health services coordinator, school counselor, teachers, parents, food services, and other staff regarding health services issues.
  • Provide support and supervision to assigned LVN(s) and nurse assistant(s), and determine and provide training and monitoring of all unlicensed school personnel providing direct health care services to students.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in health services area.
  • Report potential health and safety hazards to the principal.
  • Support the district mission by participating in campus improvement planning, school-based activities, and district staff development, and provide leadership in the formulation and implementation of campus health program goals.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nursing.
  • Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects.
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures.
  • Experience in community health or school nursing.
