Job Summary

This is a challenging opportunity to work as a Heavy Duty Equipment Operator for the U.S. Department of the Interior. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment to ensure optimal performance.

Requirements
  • Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement and a current medical examiner's certificate.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and work in inclement weather conditions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
Working Conditions

Works both inside and outside with the majority of the work being performed outside. When working outside, worker is frequently exposed to inclement weather. Incumbent works in rain, mud, snow, and in hot/cold temperatures. Worker is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, abrasions, bruises and strains while servicing and operating equipment. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective hearing devices and hard hats.

Physical Effort

Heavy physical effort is required in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet and legs to handles different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and often puts forth similar effort when pushing, pulling, turning and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
