Compensation & Benefits:

The estimated starting salary range for the Environmental Health Inspector role is between $60,000 and $75,000, with pay commensurate to experience.

Key Responsibilities of the Environmental Health Inspector:

The selected candidate must be adaptable to diverse work environments and demonstrate strong technical writing and organizational capabilities.

  • Conduct sampling of regulated building materials, including indoor air quality assessments and evaluations of industrial workplaces;
  • Perform sampling of water and soil for environmental compliance assessments and remediation projects;
  • Coordinate project activities with the Project Manager, other team members, subcontractors, etc.;
  • Execute various fieldwork tasks, such as obtaining sample media, collecting relevant data, submitting samples for laboratory analysis, observing field conditions, and documenting events;
  • Prepare necessary project-related documentation, including chain of custody forms, proposals, cost estimates, data tables, and reports;
  • Carry out other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field.
  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the capacity of Asbestos Sampling Technician or Inspector.
  • Completion of an EPA/AHERA or board-approved initial accredited inspector training program.
  • Current North Carolina State Asbestos Inspector Certification, or the ability to obtain certification within 1-2 years of employment.
  • OSHA 24-Hour or 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification (CFR Part). Training will be provided as necessary.
  • Experience working at military installations is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a project team.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites across the United States, with routine overnight travel expected (approximately 50%); extended travel may be required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
  • Excellent customer service and multitasking abilities.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including technical documentation.
  • Capability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, both independently and in a team setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant database and office automation tools, including Adobe Pro.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
