Job Overview:

This position offers an opportunity for individuals seeking a paid role with comprehensive on-the-job training. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, with a commitment of at least 40 hours per week, and potential for additional hours during peak seasons. Full-time benefits are included. You will play a vital role in assisting underground construction teams with the installation, upkeep, relocation, and repair of subterranean fiber infrastructure. Additionally, you will receive complimentary cable and internet services.

JOB PURPOSE:

Your primary responsibility will be to support underground construction teams as they engage in the installation, maintenance, relocation, and repair of telecommunications network infrastructure located underground.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in physical labor tasks such as excavating trenches, revealing existing utilities, lubricating machinery, and ensuring a secure work environment.
  • Install utility pedestals, enclosures, and access points.
  • Manage materials including conduits, fiber optics, and cable installation.
  • Conduct site restoration and cleanup tasks, including grading, seeding, and concrete repair.
  • Operate light machinery such as skid steers, hydro-vacuum trucks, jackhammers, concrete saws, and power tampers.
  • Adhere strictly to safety regulations, procedures, and policies.
  • Establish safety boundaries using signage, cones, and barriers.
  • Uphold the company's safety protocols to safeguard employees and the community.
  • Drive company vehicles in accordance with established policies.

  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with company policies.
  • Regular attendance is essential for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Previous experience in telecommunications infrastructure installation is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with construction practices, safety regulations, and general standards is beneficial.

Job Levels and Requirements:

Laborer: No prior experience necessary.

Laborer I: Requires a valid driver's license with a clean driving record and a DOT Medical Card. Must understand locate flags and color code meanings. Ability to work outdoors without restrictions. Familiarity with company construction policies is preferred. Must operate equipment such as skid steers and vacuum trucks safely.

Laborer II: Must meet Laborer I requirements. Requires nine months of experience in underground utility construction. Capable of completing vacuum jobs independently and restoring job sites to company standards. Must operate vacuum equipment safely and independently.

Laborer III: Must meet Laborer II requirements. Requires eighteen months of experience in underground utility construction. Knowledge of equipment operations such as mini-excavators, drills, and locators is necessary. Must demonstrate leadership qualities and understand job site operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May require reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Ability to lift loads up to 84 lbs.
  • Work environment may involve moderate to high noise levels.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and navigate in confined spaces.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions, with potential exposure to electrical hazards and vibrations.
  • Flexible working hours may include weekends and holidays.
  • Travel requirements may be up to 50% of scheduled hours.
