SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee and execute general custodial and grounds maintenance across school campuses or district facilities, ensuring a clean, safe, and conducive environment for learning and working.
This position involves training, supervising, and supporting staff, implementing Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring timely and professional responses to all maintenance requests, managing supply inventories, and performing related tasks as assigned.
The role operates independently, with major activities reported through regular meetings.Essential Job Functions:
Plan, assign, execute, and supervise the general custodial and grounds maintenance of district schools and other assigned facilities.
Supervise assigned personnel, including training, assigning tasks, evaluating performance, providing counseling, and recommending disciplinary actions as necessary; offer guidance and support as needed.
Collaborate with school principals and staff to advise, plan, and implement general maintenance tasks and minor repairs; maintain Custodial and Grounds Standard Operating Procedures and Work Schedules.
Conduct inspections of buildings and grounds; immediately report any unsafe conditions and address or eliminate hazards; promptly notify the appropriate administrator of emergencies; report incidents of theft or break-ins to administrators, security, and law enforcement.
Supervise, perform, and/or assist team members with maintenance tasks, including but not limited to cleaning classrooms, restrooms, kitchens, offices, recreational areas, and performing minor repairs such as changing light bulbs and air filters.
Ensure the removal of debris from bleachers, stadiums, and other areas following events and school activities.
Request servicing and repairs for building systems maintained by district staff and/or external vendors, including mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and other skilled trades; utilize the maintenance computerized work request system.
Inspect ongoing and completed work to ensure compliance with district policies, procedures, and quality and safety standards.
Participate in training, seminars, and workshops as necessary to enhance job knowledge and skills.
Maintain appropriate equipment and preventative maintenance schedules; initiate repair work as needed.
Keep accurate and complete records of work order requests and completions; approve invoices for payment.
Coordinate and/or perform special duties as assigned.
Respond to emergency work requests after hours and on weekends as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned or directed.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED required; four (4) years of experience in building maintenance and possession of a Class D Driver's License.
Degree Equivalency Formula:
Bachelor's Degree = 4 years plus required years of experience.
Master's Degree = 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master's degrees are required, years for Bachelor's Degrees must be included.
