Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Project Planner to join our team at the City of Winston-Salem, NC. As a key member of our transportation planning team, you will be responsible for coordinating all transit planning activities and developing strategies to improve urban mobility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the transit element of the Metropolitan Planning Organization's (MPO) 2045 Transportation Plan and Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP).
  • Assist in the development and refinement of the transit element of the regional travel demand model.
  • Work with the Winston-Salem Transit Authority (WSTA) to plan and program transit projects, programs, and services in the Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program (MTIP) and the City of Winston-Salem's Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
  • Complete Vehicle Occupancy Counts (VOC) studies and other data collection activities as needed.
  • Assist WSTA with the implementation and management of their data collection systems.
  • Manage the Job Access and Reverse Commute (JARC) and Enhanced Mobility of Seniors & Individuals with Disabilities funding programs or other programs as required.
  • Assist the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART) with planning and implementation of a regional commuter transportation system.
  • Conduct Title VI/Environmental Justice planning.
  • Complete the required portions of the annual Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) and other performance planning and evaluation documents.
  • Administer transit planning grants.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in transportation planning, city and regional planning, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in transportation planning.
  • AICP Certification is desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of the concepts, principles, techniques, and legal aspects of transit and transportation planning.
  • Current literature and recent initiatives in the transit planning field.
  • Research and statistical methods.
  • Governmental organizations and operations.
  • Community inter-relationships.
  • Project management methods and techniques.
